+GOVERNANCE OF CWCIS
Board of Directors
The Coworkers of Christ Institute and Seminary (CWCIS) functions as an educational ministry of the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ and is accountable to its corporate governing body, the General Council, which serves as the Board of Directors of the Institute.
The Board of Directors holds ultimate authority and fiduciary responsibility for all operations, policies, and expressions of CWCIS. As the custodians of its mission and integrity, the Board ensures that all educational and ministerial endeavors remain faithful to the theological vision and spiritual charism of the Coworkers of Christ.
The Board of Directors appoints a Board of Trustees, delegating to it the stewardship of day-to-day operations, administration, and academic oversight of the Institute.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees serves as the primary administrative and academic governing body of the Coworkers of Christ Institute and Seminary. Entrusted with the daily leadership and operation of CWCIS, the Trustees are responsible for implementing policy, strategic planning, and the faithful management of institutional resources.
Their duties include oversight of curricular development, faculty appointments, student formation, and the prudent use of property and facilities. They also ensure sound fiscal management and human resource development in harmony with the Institute’s mission and values.
The Board of Trustees maintains close collaboration with the wider Independent Sacramental Movement, seeking to embody the Coworkers’ vision of theological education as sacramental formation for the blessing of the world.
Board of Visitors
The Board of Visitors serves as an advisory and ambassadorial body composed of community leaders, clergy, educators, and alumni who share in the mission of the Coworkers of Christ Institute and Seminary. While it does not exercise governing authority, the Board of Visitors plays a vital consultative role, offering insight on professional trends, academic innovation, and ministry development.
Members of the Board of Visitors assist in fostering public awareness, strengthening relationships between CWCIS and the broader Church, and supporting the Institute’s advancement and fundraising efforts.
Through advocacy, counsel, and prayerful partnership, the Board of Visitors helps CWCIS remain responsive to the needs of the Church and the world it serves.
+GOVERNANCE PHILOSOPHY & INSTITUTIONAL ETHOS
The governance of the Coworkers of Christ Institute and Seminary reflects the collaborative and incarnational spirit at the heart of the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ. Each governing body, the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Visitors, participates in a shared stewardship of the Institute’s mission: to form servants of Christ who embody the Gospel through study, prayer, and compassionate service.
Together, these boards ensure that every dimension of the Institute’s life, academic, spiritual, and administrative, remains faithful to the call of Christ and the founding vision of the Sacramental Community of the Coworkers of Christ. Governance at CWCIS is not merely an exercise of authority but an act of ministry, guided by discernment, accountability, and a commitment to the common good.
Rooted in prayer and guided by the wisdom of tradition, the Institute’s leadership seeks always to balance academic excellence with spiritual depth, freedom with responsibility, and scholarship with pastoral love. In all things, the governance of CWCIS exists to serve the greater purpose for which it was founded, to be and to form coworkers of Christ for the blessing of the world.
